Backflow Testing Services
Concerns about backflow? With our backflow testing service, we help you gain peace of mind that contaminated water does not enter the drinking supply.
What is backflow testing? Backflow testing is a process performed by a certified plumber to ensure that a backflow prevention device is working correctly to prevent contaminated water from entering the safe drinking water supply. The test involves using a specialized backflow test kit to measure pressure and check valves under various conditions, with results documented and submitted to the local water purveyor. This regular testing is crucial for maintaining public health and may be required annually or at other intervals by your local municipality.
- Visual Inspection: The tester first inspects the device for any signs of wear, damage, or leaks.
- Pressure Measurement: They connect a backflow test kit, which uses small nozzles called test cocks on the device, to measure pressure at different points.
- Valve & Relief Valve Testing: The tester checks the check valves to ensure they allow one-way flow and block reverse flow. For reduced-pressure (RP) devices, they also test the relief valve to confirm that it opens correctly under backflow conditions.
- Data Analysis: Pressure data is analyzed to identify inconsistencies indicating a malfunction.
- Report and Submission: A detailed inspection report is provided, and the results are submitted to the local water authority (purveyor)
